Beyond fingerprints: The FBI wants to capture and catalog biometric data

Biometric technology in general is enjoying an increased uptake among US federal law enforcement, and one of the biometric industry's segments that have seen growth is iris recognition, and identification using this method.

And this information comes straight from the horse's mouth: a company, Iris ID, that is working with the FBI to equip the agency with the necessary technology.

The tech is needed to power the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) Iris Service. The company, formerly known as LG Electronics Iris Technology Division, was set up in the US in 2002, and says that it works closely with LG Elite, its South Korea-based R&D center.
