ENCRYPT Act
What it does
The ENCRYPT Act stops states and cities from ordering a company to build a backdoor into encrypted products or weaken their security. It keeps encryption rules federal instead of letting a patchwork of state mandates force companies to weaken protection for everyone.
Why it matters
If one state can demand a backdoor, companies tend to build it for all users to keep selling there. Blocking state mandates keeps strong encryption in place nationwide.
Our take
A rare good one. It does not add new protections; it stops the back door being pried open one state at a time. Support it before a single state legislature sets the standard for the whole country.
