In many ways, the Covid pandemic and a rising crop of technologies like facial recognition that preceded it have created a perfect storm for privacy violations.

Beside the lingering concerns that some of the technological solutions introduced as part of Covid measures, like tracking and personal data collection, would long outlive the actual pandemic, we are now seeing another phenomenon: privacy invasive and controversial tech being apparently unnecessarily introduced through the back door.
