The health department of a US county has announced that they were no longer going to post updates about the COVID-19 pandemic as they are being trolled and subject to negative comments.

Ste. Genevieve County Health Department posted this Thursday, writing that the comments from users have “gotten out of hand.” Starting from comments about what they call “conspiracy theories,” the comment section on the posts about COVID-19 updates has apparently become too much to deal with for the department.

“We are mentally tired and after working countless hours trying to stay on top of all this, we are yelled at, complained about, and spoke to in the most disrespectful of ways,” the statement read.

The health department expressed frustration at the fact that everybody was acting like an expert about the pandemic. “Not to mention after working up Covid-19 cases and making recommendations for 8 months, people seem to think they are the experts and we know nothing.”

Comprising just 10 employees, the Ste. Genevieve Health Department said that it was trying its best to deliver accurate stats and numbers to the public. But negative comments have discouraged the department from continuing its efforts.

“Unfortunately we can not make everyone happy or accommodate to what everyone thinks they ‘deserve’ or ‘have the right to.’ With most information people are demanding, it can be found on the state dashboard along with other reputable websites. If you choose to think the data is incorrect or not current enough, we encourage you to do your own research to find what you may be looking for,” read an excerpt from the department’s post.

From now on, all updates on the COVID-19 pandemic can be found on the health department’s website, where no one can reply, and will no longer be shared on their Facebook page.
