The questions and controversies keep increasing around data brokers and the massive and lucrative industry they run – but the intricacies of their business still remain murky.

There are, however, several things that are known: large sums of money are involved; the way personal data is collected and then sold and bought are often violating people’s privacy; and, the US government is a prominent client.
