
Biometrics-based data gathering for surveillance purposes is turning into a veritable "latter-day" Swiss army knife. Surprise. /s
So instead of serving a single, or several (legally) clearly justified purposes - originally mostly marketed as having to do with big security issues such as immigration and terrorism - the little "digital knife" is now slowly, but inevitably, cutting through many layers of society and turning into a general-purpose weapon of - whatever choice.
Whether you agree with any of the individual "purposes" - the very tendency should be a cause for concern, and if fact has always been, most civil rights, freedoms and privacy advocates have agreed over the years.
Here, for example, is one seemingly carved in stone rule of life: if you don't pay rent, you get evicted.
