The flaws in the federal plans to protect online privacy

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has expressed its disappointment with a new draft of the American Data Privacy Protection Act (ADPPA, H.R. 8152).

We obtained a copy of the bill for you here.

The main complaints here have to do with disenfranchising individual states from improving on data privacy rules, as well as effectively undermining federal telecommunications regulation, and failing to provide better rights to individuals to sue in case of privacy violations.

The digital rights group has presented several main objections regarding the problems with the draft that immediately jumped out as EFF experts started to examine the document.
