The Mastodon barriers to entry and privacy concerns

Many users are supposedly “migrating” to federated microblogging platforms, specifically Mastodon, viewed as something of a flagship service on this scene. This growth is largely driven by those who are protesting Twitter making more of a commitment to free speech and those who are against that are thinking about leaving.

For many, this is going to be their first introduction to the fediverse and so it’s worth looking into how private and secure this type of social media really is.
