There are few other ways of putting it: The rest of the world may be reeling – but Clearview AI itself seems unfazed. A scandal that broke out around hundreds of law enforcement outfits using this facial recognition tech, that some reports said had the potential to “end privacy as we know it,” seems to have done little to slow its business drive down.

Now we’ll have to wait and see if another thing we have learned this week is that there may not be any shortage of ethically questionable, but money-savvy investors who know which way the wind is blowing, and are willing to spend betting on the trend.
