On September 11, 2022, journalist Jack Posobiec posted a photo of Donald Trump visiting the World Trade Center in 2001. Instagram added a “fact-check” to the photo that read: “Missing Context. The same information was reviewed by independent fact-checkers in another post.”
Posobiec only wrote: “No one told him to go. He went anyway.”
Posobiec’s post was “fact-checked” by Snopes and Lead Stories, and censored on the platform. Snopes said that the post was “partly false.” The fact-checker added: “Was Donald Trump at Ground Zero searching for survivors two days at 9/11 with workers he paid for?” It concluded that the claim that Trump brought people to Ground Zero was “unproven.”
Lead Stories said that the post had “missing context” and explained that there was, “No evidence that Donald Trump paid hundreds of workers to help with search and rescue after 9/11.”
These fact-checkers ignored the fact that Posobiec made no claim that Trump brought workers, only that he was there, which was true – and the post was still partially suppressed.
