Tech billionaire Bill Gates is criticizing the US government’s response towards the coronavirus pandemic while praising China’s progress in containing the virus – the same perspective of the China-backed propaganda campaigns that are currently running.
At a juncture where China and the WHO are receiving intense backlash for delaying to reveal the COVID-19 outbreak, figures such as Bill Gates praising China are raising eyebrows from those who are paying attention.
Gates said that China responded quickly and carried out extensive testing to weed out positives from the population, whereas the same has not been the case with the US.
“It’s sad that even the US that you would expect to do this well did it particularly poor,” said Gates, in an interview with CNN.

Gates further added that blaming China was merely a distraction and that the country needed to stop the blame game and work to tackle the outbreak.
“This is the time to take the great science we have, the fact that we’re in this together, to fix testing, treatments and get that vaccine and, ya know, minimize the trillions of dollars and many things that you can’t even dimensionalize in economic terms that are awful about the situation that we are in,” said Gates.
While criticizing the mishandling of the pandemic in the initial stages could be a valid enough point, praising the country which was responsible for the outbreak becoming a global pandemic has earned Gates a “pro-China” image, especially when considering the extensive censorship that China implemented in the early stages – and continues to implement today.
From silencing whistleblowers to banning users from social apps if they talked about the rumors of the outbreak, and not informing the rest of the world in time, China can be deemed responsible for accelerating the spreading of the virus to a better part of the world and figures such as Bill Gates seem to want to overlook that.
