What it does
App stores must work out the age of every account holder in Louisiana, tie minors' accounts to a parent, and get that parent's consent for each app download and each in-app purchase. It also requires age ratings to be accurate and stops stores and developers from binding children to terms of service without parental approval. Signed June 30, 2025, it was due to start July 1, 2026; a follow-up bill signed in May pushed that to July 1, 2027.
What’s at stake
Louisiana made it three states, and the vote tells the story: not one legislator voted no. Apple lobbying killed the 2024 version of this bill. A year later it passed unanimously. That is how fast the politics of age verification are moving.
Our take
The delay is about implementation, not doubt. Once the infrastructure exists in Texas it switches on everywhere else cheaply, and every phone sold in Louisiana comes with an identity check at setup.
