Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins said the loosening of censorship on Twitter when Elon Musk takes over would be “incredible and dangerous narcissism.”

“Is it a great success that a multi-billionaire would be now deciding what is appropriate for people to exchange by way of discourse? I think it can hardly be described as anything other than a manifestation of an incredible and dangerous narcissism,” Higgins said during a climate change summit at the Dublin City University.

He avoided mentioning Musk by name.

After Twitter’s board accepted his bid, Musk tweeted: “I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means.”
