Obama’s internet kill switch

? The US has the ability to shut off the internet as an act of suppression for "emergencies."

The notion of an internet kill switch – a system put in place that allows a country to shut down the internet in one move – is often associated with states that are viewed as having autocratic regimes.

Internet shutdowns these days happen exclusively in troubled countries, where the authorities are trying to control either information or population in a time of crisis and unrest. But that doesn’t mean that democracies don’t have the same option at their disposal.
