Rugby referee Nigel Owens was suspended from Facebook after posting a screenshot of an insult directed at him.
Owens took to Twitter to announce the ban, writing. “I shared a post on Facebook of someone who was posting homophobic comments at me, and Facebook have blocked ME for 30 days. Not the person who was actually posting the homophobic comments. Unbelievable. And now I can’t contact Facebook to explain.”
One follower commented, “Unbelievable, are others able to appeal on your behalf.”
Another one wrote: “Social media is getting more and more bonkers. Someone I know was banned for saying they would’ve snapped someone’s hand off for a ticket. As much as technology can be a good thing, there has to be a better way to combat incorrect algorithms. Hope you get it sorted.”
He posted the same screenshot on Instagram, also owned by Facebook, and he was not suspended.
