Fans of a popular Chinese video blogger who called herself “Your Highness Qiao Biluo” have been left stunned after a technical glitch during one of her live-streams revealed her to be not exactly the young glamorous girl they thought her to be.
The Chinese vlogger, who called herself “Your Highness Qiao Biluo”, appeared to have had a sudden problem that removed the filter she was using, revealing her to be a middle-aged woman.
China’s Global Times reported she was venerated as a “cute goddess” by some of her most loyal fans, with some people sending her payments of more than 100,000 yuan ($14,533, £11,950).
The vlogger, known for her “sweet and healing voice”, was using a filter during her videos. The Global Times reports that during a joint live-stream on the Douyu platform with another user, Qingzi, fans urged her to show her face and remove the filter but she refused, apparently saying: “I can’t show my face until I receive gifts worth 100,000 yuan. After all, I’m a good looking host.”
During the live-stream, fans began to send her money, the largest sum sent was 40,000 yuan. However, at some point, it seems the filter she was using stopped working and her real face appeared to her followers. According to the vlogger, she only realized what was happening when the VIP access room members started leaving en masse.
Many of her followers, mostly men, are said to have stopped following her and blocked their transactions as soon as they realized her true identity. Other spectators commented that her followers were superficial, and deserved to be tricked into paying sums of money without first being sure of her identity.
According to Weibo users who are debating what happened Qiao Biluo has since then suspended her platform.
Many of the users are sympathetic to the vlogger and ask people not to judge her by her appearance but rather for her voice, the main feature to have brought her fame, while others say she got what she deserved for manipulating people into throwing their money away to her.
