Renowned singer-songwriter Boy George has sent Pronoun Twitter into a tailspin after he mocked the demands of those who promote the idea “preferred pronouns.” The trend of people leaving their preferred pronouns in their Twitter bio has been increasing in recent months. Boy George labeled the idea as “ridiculous.”

“Be more than a pronoun,” Boy George responded recently, when one Twitter user said “PLEASE use trans people’s correct pronouns EVEN IF you hate the person you’re talking about otherwise you’re insinuating trans peoples’ pronouns are a privilege that can be taken away at your will rather than a right they’re entitled to.”
Boy George, who has been bending gender norms since most of Pronoun Twitter was even born, called the idea of demanding that people use their “preferred pronouns” a “a modern form of attention seeking.”
While most of Boy George’s followers appreciated him speaking up and giving voice to what many are thinking, there were plenty of Twitter users that weren’t happy about the statements.
