The new Twitter rival GETTR has banned political commentator Nick Fuentes, The Daily Beast has reported.
“The user in question violated GETTR’s clearly defined terms of use and has been suspended from the platform,” a GETTR spokesperson told The Daily Beast.
GETTR promotes itself as “a brand new social media platform founded on the principles of free speech, independent thought and rejecting political censorship and ‘cancel culture.’”
However, GETTR does appear to have limits as to what content it allows on the platform, likely as a way to stay in Apple and Google’s good graces and be allowed on the App Stores. Like most large platforms, GETTR is also partnered with Amazon to provide hosting at scale and so is required to comply with Amazon’s idea of what’s allowed.
Fuentes appeared to have been live streaming at the time he was banned.
Last year, Fuentes was banned from Twitter:
“Political commentator Nicholas J. Fuentes has been banned from Twitter two days after the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) published reports about him.
The first of these reports was published by the SPLC on July 7 and revealed that the SPLC had been flagging Fuentes’ tweets to Twitter since January 5. According to this report, Twitter refused to censor Fuentes but offered to enroll the SPLC’s “Hatewatch” blog in its “Partner Support Portal” on January 11.”
