The Candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, Leslyn Lewis, has vowed to end ArriveCAN and other forms of digital ID programs.
“The Liberals ArriveCAN app continues to be a glitching failure that only serves to grind our tourism to a halt & force symptom free Canadians into quarantine,” she wrote on Twitter. “I have said all along that I wouldn’t just end ArriveCAN, I would end ALL digital ID programs.”
The ArriveCAN app, a travel app required to enter Canada, has been the subject of controversy since it was launched. More recently, criticism has increased after Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino told reporters that the app could remain indefinitely as a way to modernize Canada’s borders. The app was initially meant to prove Covid vaccination and testing and enforce quarantine.

“ArriveCAN was originally created for COVID-19, but it has technological capacity beyond that,” Mendocino told reporters a few weeks ago, adding that the app can allow travelers to complete customs declaration remotely before arriving.

In her tweet, Lewis added a link to an article she wrote in May titled: “Getting Canada out of the WEF Travel Program.” The article criticizes Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for quietly including Canada in the Known Traveler Digital Identity (KTDI), a program run by the World Economic Forum.
