ExifEraser is a lightweight, permissionless Android app for stripping metadata from photos on the phone where you actually share them. It removes EXIF, XMP, ICC profiles and other embedded tags from JPEG, PNG and WebP images before they leave the device. There is no account, no network access and no clutter, you pick images or share them into the app and get clean copies back. It is open source under the MIT license. The developer has put it in maintenance mode, with bug fixes only; the latest release came in July 2026. The trade-off is scope: it handles images only so pair it with a desktop tool for documents or video.

Strengths

  • Runs on-device, no permissions needed
  • No account or network access
  • Open source (MIT), still gets bug fixes

Considerations

  • Images only (JPEG, PNG, WebP)
  • Android only
