This is where you have to be clear about what you want, because private means different things. If your goal is escaping ad-tech profiling while keeping a polished, standards-based service that plays nicely with everything, Fastmail fits: full CalDAV, syncs natively with Apple Calendar and Thunderbird (and with Android through a helper app like DAVx5), and you pay with a subscription rather than your data. If your goal is that nobody, including the provider, can read your schedule, Fastmail does not qualify. It is not end-to-end encrypted so Fastmail can read your calendar. For that, choose Proton, Tuta, or a self-hosted setup like EteSync or Radicale.
