The US’ plans to renew drone laws are dangerous for privacy and free speech

The US administration is being criticized for its approach to regulating the use of private unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), i.e., drones, particularly in terms of warrantless electronic surveillance of communications from these devices, and of the devices themselves.

Already in 2018, the Federal Aviation Administrator (FAA) Reauthorization Act included the Preventing Emerging Threats Act that had provisions, as well as definitions (or in many instances, lack thereof) that this digital rights group has objected to.
