Joining the pushback against facial recognition tech

?

Even if most people can't quite wrap their minds around the complexities of facial recognition technology itself, it's fairly well known at this point that its application can lead to harms affecting a range of freedoms, as this tech sits at the very dark heart of mass surveillance.

Like any other invasive "tech species" this one is designed to represent a fait accompli - a done deal that cannot be reversed once governments and/or corporations decide to implement it. And while most people may still be taking the defeatist approach that nothing can be done, as the future will be locked in the facial recognition's "opt-ins" by default, not all is lost.

It’s almost impossible to completely avoid facial recognition technology, but that doesn’t mean there’s no way you can reduce your being tracked by it.

New avenues are being created for people to protect their rights and privacy and carve out an "opt-out" for themselves as a result of other new technologies, new legislation, and the spread of awareness about the problem, the argument goes.
