LibreOffice is the mature, fully offline alternative to Microsoft Office, bundling a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database app in one download. Because it runs entirely on your own machine, nothing you type is sent to a vendor’s cloud to be indexed or profiled. It opens and saves Microsoft formats, though very complex .docx and .xlsx layouts can still shift a little. It is free, open source and stewarded by the non-profit Document Foundation. Choose it if you want a private desktop suite with no accounts and no subscriptions.
