Qwant is the French entry, based in Paris and hosted inside the EU, bound by GDPR and neither tracking you nor selling your data. Its results have leaned on Bing. It’s building the European Search Index with Ecosia to add its own crawl and cut that dependence. The European Parliament made it the default on its own computers in 2026, if that means anything to you. It’s proprietary and the homegrown index is still young. As an EU-based option with that kind of institutional backing, it stands out.
