A decentralized end-to-end encrypted Google Docs alternative

?

Skiff, a startup that aims to provide an end-to-end encrypted alternative to document editing platforms like Google Docs, is also trying to solve the problems that arise with centralized cloud storage.

To this end, the company that touts itself as privacy-oriented, is introducing the beta version of a new, decentralized file system, IPFS ("Interplanetary File System") that is supposed to allow users to have full ownership of their content published or shared online, unlike what happens on a service like Amazon's AWS.

Skiff teamed up with Protocol Labs, an open-source research, development, and deployment outfit with Filecoin and libp2p among products in its portfolio - to develop IPFS. The main intent seems to be to give users the dependability and convenience of cloud storage, as opposed to storing files locally, which requires multiple backups to properly secure data - but at the same time remove the negative sides of the now dominant cloud services.
