Dystopian biometrics in US airports are set to be pushed in 2022

?

Deployment of advanced biometrics-based mass surveillance in US airports is anything but a "slow march."

Like so many other long-term questionable and to various degrees untransparent and controversial features introduced during the pandemic, the use of biometric data is now much more widespread than before Covid hit.

And in the US, this is especially clear to international travelers, who are finding that a growing number of automated airport points they have to pass through is now powered by biometric tech.

Harvesting, storing, sharing and using biometric data is always a cause for concern, given just how wrong things can get and the type of mass-scale abuse that can occur, affecting people's privacy. Add to that the fact that once unpopular or concerning measures have been sneaked in under the guise of a crisis, it is unlikely they will ever go away, i.e., that trends like the increased reliance on biometrics will be reversed, pandemic or no pandemic.
