Pricinggrist-core is free and open source (Apache 2.0) to self-host; the hosted service at getgrist.com has a free tier with paid Pro and Team plans.

Grist is a relational spreadsheet that pairs a familiar grid with the structure of a database, letting you link tables, build custom views, and write formulas in real Python. The grist-core edition is open source under Apache 2.0 and self-hostable, storing each document as a portable SQLite file you fully control. Granular access rules let you restrict who can see which rows and columns. It is not end-to-end encrypted so privacy comes from running it on your own server rather than the hosted cloud. Grist is built by Grist Labs, a US company, with notable contributions from the French government's DINUM and ANCT.

Strengths

  • Spreadsheet flexibility plus database relations and Python formulas
  • Self-hostable and Apache-licensed, with data in portable SQLite files
  • Granular row- and column-level access controls

Considerations

  • Not end-to-end encrypted
  • Vendor is US-based and richer features sit in the paid hosted plans
