Grist is a relational spreadsheet that pairs a familiar grid with the structure of a database, letting you link tables, build custom views, and write formulas in real Python. The grist-core edition is open source under Apache 2.0 and self-hostable, storing each document as a portable SQLite file you fully control. Granular access rules let you restrict who can see which rows and columns. It is not end-to-end encrypted so privacy comes from running it on your own server rather than the hosted cloud. Grist is built by Grist Labs, a US company, with notable contributions from the French government's DINUM and ANCT.
