Internxt encrypts your photos with zero-knowledge encryption before they leave your device so the company itself cannot open them. It is open source, based in Valencia, Spain, stores data in EU data centres and its platform was independently audited by Securitum, most recently in August 2025. The lifetime plans are a genuine draw if you are tired of subscriptions. The catch is that the Photos experience is younger and less mature than rivals, notably it still lacks true automatic background upload and the free tier is a stingy 1 GB.

Strengths

  • Zero-knowledge, end-to-end encryption
  • Open source and independently audited by Securitum
  • EU jurisdiction with GDPR compliance
  • Lifetime plans avoid endless subscriptions

Considerations

  • Photos app lacks automatic background backup
  • Younger, smaller ecosystem than rivals
  • Free tier is only 1 GB
