PhotoPrism is a self-hosted photo library whose automatic tagging and search genuinely rival the cloud giants, with no recurring bill and full ownership of your collection. The Community Edition is free and open source under the AGPL and the German team funds development through optional Essentials and Plus memberships. Like other self-hosted tools it keeps everything on your own server rather than a company’s cloud. But it is not end-to-end encrypted, it demands the technical work of running and securing a server, and there is no turnkey hosted version yet.
