A watchdog group called Protect the Public’s Trust is suing the State Department for allegedly failing to turn over records relating to the Global Disinformation Index (GDI), a British organization funded by the State Department that has reportedly been covertly blacklisting conservative media. The watchdog group filed seven Freedom of Information Act requests in mid-February, but the State Department has estimated it won’t provide the records until August 2025. GDI has come under scrutiny from Republican lawmakers and watchdog groups for allegedly feeding blacklists of conservative websites to advertisers with the intent of shutting them down.
