GNOME Evolution is a full personal-information manager for Linux, bundling mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks around open standards like IMAP, CalDAV, and CardDAV. It has native OpenPGP and S/MIME encryption so no plugins are needed to sign or encrypt a message. It is open source and free, and integrates neatly into the GNOME desktop. The interface shows its age, Exchange support needs a separate package, and there is no mobile or Windows build. Choose it if you want an Outlook-style suite on Linux without the surveillance.

Strengths

  • Native OpenPGP and S/MIME, no plugins
  • Integrated mail, calendar, and contacts
  • Open source and free
  • Built on open standards (IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV)

Considerations

  • Linux only, no mobile version
  • Interface feels dated
