What MEGA gives you is room. The free plan is 20 GB with daily transfer limits, all of it end-to-end encrypted. The apps run everywhere. Set that against a messy corporate history and client code that is published but sits under a non-open license. It is a fair pick when you want a lot of encrypted storage without paying for it.

Strengths

  • Very large free storage tier
  • End-to-end encrypted
  • Available on every major platform

Considerations

  • Clients not fully open source
  • Free-tier transfer limits
  • Mixed corporate track record
